Train Station @SpActrum

Harbin, China

Located on the outskirts of Harbin, this once active woodcutting train facility is now being transformed into a museum of century-old trains and equipment. Its closure is part of the government’s initiative to cut C02 emissions and repurpose derelict sites and thusly re-employ skilled workers.

The core of the building revolves around the museum and galleries with sloping and undulating walkways that exhibit machinery.  A hotel and homes for young artists animate the neighborhood and gives an otherwise dusty industrial area a new creative and leisurely purpose to reflect upon the past and inspire young generations to think about the future.
